Trust Your Gut

March 30, 2022 by Marin Mama Leave a Comment

Trust Your GutI’m going to be introducing a series on the blog called, Recipes for Life. I’m not exactly sure what it truly is, or where it’s going to evolve to, but I do know that it’s going to be a place for me to journal my thoughts, share insights and to connect with you all on a new level.  I’ve been hearing the whispers to share in this way for a while, but I’ve been procrastinating and holding back, because I was waiting for the perfect message to put in a post, but I’ve learned that there is no perfect message, or perfect time to start anything new, there will always be an excuse and there will always be a self-created obstacle. Sometimes you just have to just start with a first draff, and get those words out as they are today, and trust that someone needs to hear those words, or message at this specific point in time. So that’s what I’m doing, I’m starting with draft one and  sharing it.

I’ve had a lot of gut issues over the years, and seen countless doctors and tried different medications, foods and solutions to heal my gut. I was basically looking to the outside to cure my gut, but one day in a moment of clarity I realized my gut was trying to communicate to me. It was nagging me in a not so fun way to stop, listen and tune in to its message. Do you know that sometimes pain is our bodies way of speaking to us?  More on that in another post.

Our gut is our center, and where our intuition is. You’ve all heard the saying, “trust your gut.” Well, I wasn’t trusting my gut, or my intuition on life, as I was too busy “doing” and listening to everyone else’s voices and truths and claiming and accepting them as mine. I was just too busy to hear its whispers or messages.

In this crazy modern-day world, we’re so busy doing, that we’re easily bombarded and influenced by so many voices via the internet, social media, or through all the steaming news channels that we’ve become lost to the one voice that is our truth, and that voice is our voice, our intuition and our gut.

We’ve gotten so used to jumping on a screen to get the answers to our questions. We use Google as the search engine for life, to answer all our questions, and we lazily take those answers as our truth.  We’re accepting someone else’s truth as our truth. I get this, it’s easy to have someone else do the leg work and put that new finding or fact in a bucket of right, wrong or good and bad, but that may not be your truth.

We’re all so uniquely different, no one is alike, and that is such an amazing and miraculous thing, so why do we blindly accept what someone else says to be OUR TRUTH?  When did we implicitly trust others over ourselves?

When did we become part of the herd?  Do you really want to blindly follow the herd going down the same road of life, or do you want to start down a new path, a path that is created by you, and resonates with you?  I know for myself, that I want to create and start down a new path and see what manifests and what I discover.

We have all the information we need to navigate through life inside ourselves. It’s taken me many years to understand, trust and wrap my hands around this, but it’s the truth. Below is a message I heard one day on a run when I was feeling pushed to conform to an agenda that I didn’t feel aligned with.

Trust Your Intuition

Trust your gut.

The first step to hearing your voice is to break away from all the noise, stop listening to the all the voices around you and go into your heart and listen to the voice inside you.

Think back to a time when you’ve heard your own voice.

  • What were you doing?
  • Were you dancing, doing yoga, meditating, journaling, listening to music, being in nature, doodling, sitting and staring, playing?

I hear my voice when I’m walking, running or playing in nature. I hear it when I’m alone and there are no other voices around me to distract me.

What does this voice sound like?

  • At first, this voice sounds too kind to be my own voice. It’s answering my questions in a soft, loving and gentle way.
  • It starts out as a whisper and gentle nudge to move forward with an idea.
  • It’s gives me new insights to problems I have.
  • It’s my inner cheerleader pushing me towards passions and dreams I long for and feel deep inside.
  • It’s a voice that’s full of unconditional love, and almost sounds too good to be true.

Anyone else hear that voice?

So, my advice to you all is to go to that place where YOU HEAR YOU! Start listening to the whispers and messages and begin to trust what you hear, play with it, and see where it leads. Keep an intuition journal and you will discover that there is a magic inside of you.

As you start paying attention, you will start hearing your own voice more, and it will be louder and clearer. As a result, you will start discovering more of who you are and what makes you uniquely you. What your dreams and passions are, and what your purpose is.

When someone tells you something, or you read something, don’t just take it verbatim as the truth. Take a moment, go inside and check in with yourself. How do you feel about what is being said?  Does it resonate with you?  If not, then let it go and wait for the messages that come to you.

Since that “aha moment” I’ve started tuning in and listening to my gut more, and following its whispers, and I’ve learned to trust it. It hasn’t been easy, and there are times when I’m fearful and hesitant about the uncertain path it’s taking me down, but when I follow, let go and trust it, things just happen. Life falls into place, new doors open, people come into my life, and new pathways are created that I could not have anticipated or created in my own mind.

I’m closing by sharing a message I heard on my run one day that I shared on Instagram. I still look at this message daily when I’m feeling conflicted or insecure. It was a message to me from me, it’s an example of what our inner voices sound like. They are kind, loving and the voice of unconditional love.

be your authentic self

Like I said above, take in whatever resonates with you in this post and let go of what doesn’t.

xoxo, Jackie

New post! Roasted red peppers! If you’re looking New post! Roasted red peppers! If you’re looking for ways to incorporate more veggies into your diet, then these roasted red peppers make it easy, as they are jam packed full of flavor! Roasting them with a bit of avocado oil and some Celtic sea salt adds a sweet smokey depth of flavor that’s hard to describe in words. These roasted peppers will be your new go-to, as they literally take no time to prep and bake up! They’re a great stand alone healthy snack, or make a stellar side dish that pairs with just about anything! I make these at least 4-5 times a week, (if not more) as I use them in just about EVERYTHING. Click on the slides to see step-by-step photos and the recipe is below!
INGREDIENTS:
*3 red, yellow or orange bell peppers, sliced into thin strips
*roughly 1/2 tablespoon avocado oil
*few pinches of fine Celtic sea salt

INSTRUCTIONS:
Pre-heat oven to 450 degrees.
Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
Wash pepper, and holding from the top near the stem, slice the pepper straight down each side to form 4-6 big pieces. This keeps the seeds and ribs intact in the center and not all over your counter.

Slice the big pieces of pepper into thin slices.

Toss sliced peppers onto the baking sheet, drizzle them with avocado oil and a few pinches of sea salt, and mix them all together.

Roast the peppers in the preheated oven for roughly 12-15 minutes, giving them a toss with some tongs around the 10 minute mark, until tender and slightly charred on the skins.
Eat them straight off the baking sheet, or let cool and store in a covered container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
Check out the full post to see some things you can pair these bad boys with!
