My Favorite Green Ginger Smoothie

My favorite green ginger smoothie.

Summertime is the perfect time for smoothies! They’re jam packed with goodness, refreshing and a great on-the-go option. I created this smoothie after our trip to Switzerland and Austria, as I was craving something clean, green and cleansing, because I was fooded out (not sure if that’s even a word, but let’s go with it). This green ginger smoothie is more like a green ginger juice, but I’m calling it a smoothie, as you get the added fiber from all the ingredients. I created this smoothie just for me thinking that my family wouldn’t be fans, but it turns out that Mattie loves it and has requested it for her morning snack, so you could say it’s teenager approved!

This green ginger smoothie is jam packed with goodness and I love the kick  the ginger gives to this smoothie. I’m always looking for ways to incorporate  more greens, collagen, protein and spiriluna into my diet, so smoothies are an easy way to get it all at once. Also, don’t forget to add the tablespoon of almond butter because when you add healthy fats to your smoothie, it helps you absorb all the nutrients from the veggies. If you can’t tolerate nuts, then use sunflower butter or coconut butter. Check out my below video on making the smoothie. I forgot that for Youtube I have record via landscape. I’m so used to making reels on instagram. Oh well, I will update it one of these days.

This green ginger smoothie is almost as big as Poppin!

Let’s make my favorite green ginger smoothie! Below is a video of how I play around with the ingredients. I use what I have and work with it.

Note: Make this your own, I have a video in the above post that shows you how I play around with it. I don’t always have a lime on hand, or I skip the almond butter, but it still tastes great, as I work with what I have on hand, and that’s what I want you to do. Smoothies are a great place to play.

  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 2 cups fully packed spinach
  • 1 celery stalk, chopped
  • 1/2 cup organic frozen broccoli
  • 1 fresh or frozen banana, use a frozen banana if you want a thicker smoothie, and then feel free to omit the below ice cubes.
  • 1 teaspoon spirulina
  • 1 scoop unflavored protein collagen powder, or your favorite collagen powder –I love this one from Paleovalley, as it’s grass fed & grass finished, no hormones, and the collagen is from the bones not the hides. Use my link for 15% off
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter – I love this almond butter from Sams Adventure Snacks. You can also use coconut butter instead.
  • 1 3/4 -inch piece of fresh ginger (thumb size), peeled – you can use more or less ginger, I just love the kick the ginger gives
  • 4 ice cubes, or more to taste, I don’t usually add ice cubes especially if I’m using frozen broccoli, as I like more of a room temp smoothie, so totally up to you.
  • optional 3 tablespoons hemp seeds – this adds 9 grams of complete protein, so why not!

Note:  Feel free to adapt this smoothie. I didn’t have celery on hand one day, and added 2 de-stemmed kale leaves instead, and  it was delish!

Add the above ingredients to a high powered blender and blend on high until smooth! I absolutely love my Vitamix and have had it for years! I honestly use it 3x a day, no kidding!

If you love a protein shake post work out, then you need to try my vegan vanilla hemp protein shake. I use hemp seed milk as a base, so you’re getting double the protein, as well as a complete protein if you’re vegan. YAY! This shake is vegan, dairy-free and contains healthy fats, like omegas. All the good things your body needs to repair after a workout.
