Life is like a recipe.

Hi, and welcome to Marin Mama Cooks! My name is Jackie Reale and I’m super excited you decided to stop by and say hi.

I started this cooking blog back in 2011 as a bit of a hobby, and an easy way for me to share my favorite recipes with friends and family. I was a stay-at-home mom at the time and was craving a creative outlet that was just for me. I had no idea how to start a blog, write recipes, photograph food, or even how to cook, but I heard a whisper to give it a try, so I took the first step, and the rest is history. Sometimes we have to listen to our internal whispers when we’re feeling an urge/openness to try something new and then just go out there and take an action step. Through taking that first step, I found a passion for cooking, writing and photography, and I would have never discovered it if I hadn’t listened to the whispers to start. I also found that I love connecting people to healthy and healing food, as well as connecting people to themselves.

Where do you get your recipes from and tell me a bit more about your blog?

Since becoming a natural chef, I’ve created quite a few recipes of my own, but most of the recipes on my blog are from cookbooks, magazines, friends and other blogs. I only post recipes that my family and I love, as I want to pass on recipes that will hopefully become family favorites in your house. I want this to be your one stop blog, so I try to compile a bunch of family approved recipes ranging from salads, soups and sides to dinner and dessert. Basically, if you have similar taste buds to my family and I, then you will like most of the recipes on this blog. All my recipes are tested a number of times before I put them on the blog, so you can feel good about making them.

I like using real ingredients in my cooking. It may take a bit longer to prepare a meal, but if you plan it out ahead of time then it’s an easy task to accomplish. I always prep my ingredients ahead of time so when the real cooking starts, I have everything on hand ready to go.

I would say that my cooking style is a cross between Ina Garten and Heidi Swanson. I like a balance between comfort and healthy cooking. Life is about balance, so I believe food should be as well.

Why the name Marin Mama Cooks?

Plain and simple, I live in Marin (which is 10 minutes north of San Francisco) and I am a mom that cooks. Perfect name, right?

I think it’s fun to see the evolution of blogs, so I thought I would share with you the post I did when I hit my 1-year anniversary in 2012.  It’s hilarious. I knew nothing about SEO and my photography was, well, let’s just say it’s improved over the years! 🙂
